The Birmingham Zoo

We drove all day to get there; through Louisiana (which Sunshine thinks is the most beautiful state she has ever been through), across the Mississippi River (which impressed the children tremendously!) and made it to our destination 11 1/2 hours after we began. We had planned to do the trip in two days but with an early start, two drivers and no room at the inn thanks to local college graduations, we pressed on. After we crashed at my in-laws house, we met the Sisters for breakfast the next morning and then headed out with our Sister to the Birmingham Zoo.

We didn't get to see all of the attractions, but I have to say that I was very impressed with what we did see. Lots of opportunities to interact and little stations set up along the way manned by volunteers who offered extra information about the animals or their habitats. Anyone vacationing in Birmingham should consider a trip to this zoo!

As one of my BIL's said," Look! A Sister in her natural habit."
There was a chalk wall in the kangaroo section that let you trace aboriginal drawings. Sister decided to have a little fun with her big brother instead!
I loved this picture of Sister and the kids in their hats peering over the wall at this monster below:

This little guy kept peeking up at us from the bird pond. I couldn't help thinking "Who's here to see who, at the zoo?" Signing Time fans know what I mean!
The butterfly encounter was a big hit... as you can imagine!
BigBoy isn't usually too fond of the potentially louder animals like this Bengal Tiger but he was willing to go just about anywhere his supercool uncles wanted to take him.

A little hero worship never hurt anybody!

And we saw chipmunks everywhere! Even right here mingling with the giraffes. We don't see these guys here in Texas and the children thought they were adorable!
Camels however are not very adorable!

But this is...
More tomorrow!

  1. Awesome pictures! That camel made me giggle. &:o) The last one of Sister and your daughter is priceless. What a fun day!

  2. Looks like a really wonderful day! I agree with Lisa, the last photo is precious!

  3. What GREAT pictures! I'm so glad you all were able to visit Sister. It looks like you had a wonderful time!

So glad you are back. You were missed!

  4. That is SO COOL. I want to be related to a nun. I guess we'll have to have some daughters to make that happen!...

BTW, I like camels and will be posting some photos to prove that they are cute.

  5. Beautiful photos! We went to a zoo last Friday (sans Sister, sigh) and it'll be fun to compare notes.

    Welcome home!
