Homemade Veggie Wash Revisited

Remember these kitchen experiments? I am still sooooooo in love with the smell of my laundry soap. I sneak a little whiff even if I am not tossing in a load! I know, I'm sick. I need help. Anyway...

The vegetable wash was not such a great idea until recently when I got the bright idea to separate the formula. I bought one of those restaurant sugar dispensers and filled it with baking soda and then added all of the wet ingredients into the spray bottle. If you sprinkle a little baking soda on the fruit and then spray the liquid, you get a nice foaming action but the baking soda isn't completely dissolved so there is also good scrubbing going on. Is this more than you ever wanted to know about how I clean my zucchini? Hey, I told you I needed help!

The Veggie Wash produced the same murky water that the Fit did and these two bunches of grapes looked equally clean to me, but Husband did confirm that it seems as if my solution does a better job cleaning off that waxy film on things like apples and cucumbers. Yup, he's a keeper!

In the meantime, our grocery store started stocking the name brand stuff again and I will probably keep a bottle of that on hand. The kids like to use it instead of the stinky stuff Mommy made. But when I do big vegetable/fruit prep which I like to do because it means there is a greater chance that everyone will eat healthier, I use my stuff because I'm crazy and I like it!
