Birthday Countdown

Well, it's May and that means it's time for me to start thinking about the back-to-back birthday extravaganza coming up at the end of this month. Sunshine's birthday is the 24th and BigBoy's is the 25th! Anyone who has been reading this blog for long knows that we love our birthday themes! This year, BigBoy has requested a Playmobil themed birthday. He decided this many months ago and I had an idea back then that I have been saving until now.

Yup. It's a Playmobil Advent Calendar. I know it's not advent, but like I said, my son's birthday is on the 25th of this month. Most secular advent calendars start counting down the days to Christmas on the 1st. This version is the "Knight's Duel", so there are no Christmas images to give it away as something I picked up on clearance after the holidays for $5.  There are other themes too like Unicorn Fairy World, Police, and Pirates.
We gave it to him Saturday morning and he has hardly been able to contain his excitement as he counts down the days until his birthday! Now... time to think about the cakes!

I would have thought prior to setting this calendar up for BigBoy that it could only be used for a child who's birthday fell on the 25th of the month. But taking a second look at it, it could be used for a child who's birthday landed on the 24th as well since these kinds of advent calendars end on the 24th. Also, this one came with two extra boxes that could easily be filled with a few small treats and added to the calendar to include a birthday that was past the 25th.

  6. I have one with a 25th birthday (November) and we did the same thing for her since we already have Advent calendars for all of the kids.

One thing we did for another daughter a few years ago- started the calendar 25 days before her birthday, and opened the boxes in reverse order. She loved it!
