A Bear Named Winnie

If you are looking for a sweet family flick for movie night and subscribe to Netflix, on Instant Watch right now is an endearing little film called A Bear Named Winnie. It's based on the true story of the real bear that inspired A. A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh stories.

Stephen Fry is adorable as always in the role of the head zoo keeper. I didn't recognize too many of the other actors, but they all did a fine job. In the interest of full disclosure, this movie is set during WWI and there is one battle scene towards the end that might be difficult for sensitive or young children to watch. It's not gory, just sad. And the ending might make sensitive mommies a little teary-eyed.

  1. We just recently watched this movie too..and we loved it! Aside from the War scenes I don't recall anything that might upset anyone. We all watched it together (kids age 8, 6, and 4).

  6. My 5yr old loved this movie and immediately renamed his old teddy bear "Winnie" (finally breaking out of just calling the thing Big Brown Bear).

  7. Thanks for the recommendation! My hubby and kiddos watched it last night while I was at work. They all loved it, although he did say that my 7 year old daughter cried at the end. I can't wait to watch it myself some night this week!

P.S. I'm so glad you like Nova movies, too! They make me happy and remind me of my childhood. I was thinking of watching the dog one you mentioned with my daughter a few days ago; we'll definitely have to see it soon! My son and I really enjoyed Nova: Riddles of the Sphinx. Also on Netflix Instant Watch is Linnea in Monet's Garden. We love the book and thought the short movie was cute! AND (sorry, we're new to Netflix so this is all so exciting!) we discovered we can watch the complete series of Liberty's Kids! So fun. I'm only sorry we didn't sign up for Netflix months ago when all the "cool kids" (lol!) were doing it! Oh, well. Better late than never. :)

Thanks again for the great movie suggestions! Please keep sharing!
