A Big Girl Quiltie

Remember our friend, Baby O? Well, she's not a baby anymore so, as expected, she's outgrown her baby quiltie! For her birthday, although very belated, I made her a new big girl quiltie. (I make baby quilties with 4 bandanas and big kid quilties are made with 6.)

This spunky little girl loves nature, loves color and adores anything with critters on it. My girls say she's like a little Lanie and she's only two! So I found a beautiful pink and purple butterfly fabric that I thought would look just gorgeous with pink and purple, maybe even teal, bandanas. So girly, right?

But... I also found a fun, funky frog pattern with crazy colored mushrooms and flowers. Hmmmm... knowing this was a big decision, I called her mama from the craft store and asked which one Little O might like best. She just laughed and said, "You know which one she would like!"

  Crazy psychedelic frogs it is!

We gave it to her last week and she loves it so much she refuses to let anyone else hold it!

  2. Charlotte - I looked but can't find any directions for making your "Quilties." If you have time, is there any chance you could post quick directions? I can sew so just some general directions?? Are they made out of actual quilting fabric? What do you put in the middle, if anything?
    Thanks!

  3. Mary,
It's super easy! Just sew the bandanas together either in a two by two pattern or two by three. I use a thin batting in the middle for cushion and then sew it all to a solid piece of fabric on the backside that compliments the bandana colors. Turn and stitch closed. There is no actually quilting to be done. The first one I made was called a quiltie by the little one I made it for and the name stuck.

  6. Super, thanks so much! I saw some fun bandanas at the Dollar store the other day and I thought of this. Maybe even a fun craft for my girls to do to learn to sew.
