Bra Chat

I'm talking about nursing bras, not "Take it easy, bra!" That means... any gentleman readers... you might want to go check on training camp rosters or baseball standings and just skip this post. Or go watch some Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da craziness. Life goes on, bra! Have fun!

So, surprise surprise, I can't find any of the nursing bras that I loved back when I was nursing the older kids! I need some new ones and thought I could just order some. Doesn't look like Playtex is making them anymore. They were cotton and sold under the "Expectant Moments" brand name. You can see a picture of one here, but even though that website claims to sell them, they don't. What I liked most about this style is the connecting piece on the side and across the top once you lowered the flap (as opposed to just along the side like this one), no underwire and a non-molded cup. So, help ladies! Have you seen any like my old ones, maybe a different brand? Do you know of a similar one that you would recommend? What is your favorite nursing bra and what do you love about it? Suggestions please!!!

Thanks!

  1. i like an underwire, so this is what i use - i LOVE the way it makes my clothes hang - so much more flattering than any other bra i've tried... and i've been in nursing bras for years!

  2. I just ordered some from Kohl's. I'll let you know what I think when they arrive. I like underwire but they had ones with none. My last pregnancy I got some from Target but they don't make those anymore.

  3. Oh, I'm going to need nursing bras soon, so I hope you get some great responses!

  4. I really loved my Anita nusing bra, although they are expensive... But they're one of few that don't have an under cup with a hole in it, the whole cup comes down instead. Those bras that have the under cup with a hole for nursing caused me near endless plugged ducts.

  5. I fell in love with Bravado nursing tanks; they have bras too I believe. I never bought anything else after Bravado...LOVE them!

  6. I have loved my bravado nursing bras. Here's a link: http://www.bravadodesigns.com/shop/maternity-and-nursing-bras-and-tank

Their Original cotton Nursing Bra is my favorite, though I have also liked nursing tanks for layering. I have also used the washable cloth nursing pads. I didn't get the pads from Bravado, though they do sell them.

  7. I LOVED those Playtex Expectant Moments bras. I've been looking for a good replacement for 9 months. I hate bravada bras - they have no support and give me a uni-boob look. When you unhook the flap the hook part springs way back to the top of your shoulder. Then you're digging around looking for it when you're done.

Don't even bother with the Playtex underwire. It is soo uncomfortable.

I sure hope you get some good nonunderwire recommendations so I can check them out, too.

  8. For non-underwire, I purchased a bra from Target. http://www.target.com/Gilligan-O%E2%80%99Malley-Lace-Trim-Nursing/dp/B000KKWV5M/ref=br_1_5?ie=UTF8&id=Gilligan%20O%E2%80%99Malley%20Lace%20Trim%20Nursing&node=2224480011&searchSize=30&searchView=grid5&searchPage=2&sr=1-5&qid=1312544015&rh=&searchBinNameList=style_name%2Clifestyle-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchRank=salesrank&frombrowse=1

Very soft, held my washable nursing pads in place, inexpensive, They've been great for me as my bust as changed from pregnancy to nursing a newborn to nursing a toddler, to now pregnancy again. Good Luck!

  9. Thank you for asking this question. I don't have anything to contribute since I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, and am now suddenly aware that I likely won't be able to find the same exact bras I liked when I was nursing my last baby six years ago. I've always used underwire nursing bras so I'm afraid I'm absolutely no help to you.

Ages ago I used to find a decent selection of nursing bras a JC Penney, Sears and Target. I never liked the ones from Motherhood Maternity much. Next time I'm in Kohls I'll have to see what they have.

  10. After my last pregnancy I found it very helpful to go into a maternity store to be measured and try on different bras. I had just changed so much and really needed support. I found some I liked for the earlier stages (when you're super full and big) and then some wire ones for later on. I plan on doing the same this time around. More expensive but I felt supported for once - not to mention they looked nicer too (both by themselves and under clothes!).

  11. With my 4th, my existing nursing bras were so worn out, I went looking to replace. I found this at a nursing boutique and wished that I had had it for all of them- it is by far the MOST comfortable nursing bra I have ever worn.

I have recommended it to several friends, all who have loved it as well! I will never wear anything else now. Good luck!

  12. That was my favorite, too, but I haven't bought a new one in a long time. Looks like you might be able to order one from this website (scroll down a little bit): http://www.elizabethlee.com/clothing/bras.htm

  13. I am having the exact same problem. I was amazed to see you had the same bra from platex--they were great!

With my last baby, I got bras from Motherhood and they were very uncomfortable, and nonsupportive and looked terrible.

I agree, those underwire ones just don't cut it!

I'm off to check that Bravado one....
Thanks so much for posting this!

  14. I like Bella Materna Brand. They are from Italy. They are underwire and very expensive but I have been wearing the same bra for 3 years (it's time for a new one). It has held up extremely well. ANother plus is they are made in larger cup sizes. I purchased the bra through barenecessities.com. They have many styles of nursing bras and bathing suits to choose from. It is well worth checking out that site.

  15. I bookmarked Kelly's idea of Bravado, they look wonderful!

    Thanks Kelly!

  16. I liked a sports bra style from Wal-Mart and an underwire one from Target. I didn't like the Bravada one I got on sale or the Motherhood ones.

  18. That was the very same bra I loved ages ago! It is such a battle. Would it be serious reason to postpone pregnancy due to nursing bra struggles???? he he Go shop at breakoutbras.com Very helpful and lots to choose from.

  19. That's it ladies! We need to start a "Bring Back Our Bra" movement!! Who's in? : )

  20. Bare Necessities does not carry the Bella Materna brand any longer. However, Bella Materna does have its own website (http://www.bellamaterna.com/shop/). They also carry non-underwire style nursing bras. Even though, they are pricey they are worth every penny. I was even able to wear my bra under a bridesmaid dress (4 weeks postpartum) and had plenty of support and had appropriate seems and lift to wear my dress appropriately.

  21. I have 2 Bella Materna bras(1 underwire and one wire free) and I love them but they are expensive. I have the Elle Macphearson classic nursing bra, too. I think the Bella's give better, ahem, lift. However, it could be that I just need a new bra after 3.5 years! I tend to save the Bella's for nice occasions because I am worried about wearing it out and I don't want to buy a new bra. I used to get them at Bare Necessities. I was measured at Nordstrom, they did a great job measuring.

  22. Here's why I love my Bravado bra: #1 Breathable stretchable cotton. Fantastic for your changing size. And so comfortable that I can sleep in it. For the first few months this is a necessity for me as I leek so heavily I would wake up in a puddle.
#2 Easy latching with just a click. I hate when I have to go searching and sifting to get myself put away.
#3 Unrestrictive support. A wide band of elastic supports the breasts, but isn't restrictive. Important when restrictiveness can lead to mastitis.

    And you're welcome, Jamie!

These are cotton and have an extra piece so everything stays in place ;)
They don't separate across the top when you are wearing them. AND I have actually been to Ann's in St Louis - they are great at fitting bras. When ever I drive through I stop for a fitting.

  26. I prefer tanks because I never have to worry about exposing my jelly belly! I liked Glamourmom nursing tanks, which are pricey but I bought mine from their clearance section and I wore the two of them for over a year. I saw that Walmart had a similar style, though I didn't try them on,but they were much cheaper.

  27. I like HotMilk's nursing bras. They are comfy and cute! A little on the expensive side though. I'd definitely recommend going to a store and getting sized. (a nice store, not VS)

  28. I hate nursing bras and they hate me. I get depressed just thinking about them. Sigh.

    Sorry, not much help, lol.

  29. I like Bravado... I think this one is the one I have: http://www.bravadodesigns.com/shop/the-body-silk-seamless-nursing-bra

I'm with you on the no underwire, no molded cups! Sometimes I feel like the only one who wants a cup with thin padding and not one that stands up by itself, ha ha!

  30. Nothing to add about the bra conversation but I can't get THAT SONG out of my head!

Thanks for making the days happier around here...the kids are singing it too!

  31. My fave nursing bra, which looked a lot like that had an underwire and then I also had one like that with no underwire that I wore only slightly less.

Here is one like underwire one: http://cgi.ebay.com/MARY-JANE-PINK-UNDERWIRE-NURSING-BRA-SIZE-36C-/160574908584?pt=US_CSA_WC_Intimates&hash=item256302a8a8

And here is one like the non-underwire one: http://www.herroom.com/qt-370-molded-soft-cup-nursing-bra.shtml

  32. I had a black and a white one of this one from Motherhood:

    http://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=993890361&MasterCategory_Id=MC29

I liked it very well. I had another from there that didn't hold up as well. NOW, this is a "sports bra" and therefore doesn't give the 'girls' the separate and lift and all that for a look. I definitely did NOT have a "UniBoob" look - but I am quite busty. I would use this bra again!! and again!!! ;)

  33. Anita nursing bras. Like this one:
http://www.breakoutbras.com/product/Anita-Nursing-Bra-5043/Nursing-Bras Yes, they are expensive, but they lasted the entire 2-3 years of nursing each child. It is totally worth it to get fitted at a real lingerie shop, too (not Motherhood or VS).

  34. $23.99 @Target:

    Basics by Bravado designs
    Stella Maternity and nursing bra

    here is a review:
    http://theshoppingmama.com/2010/02/basics-by-bravado-review/

In my opinion its a good bra. A lot like a sports bra, so your girls won't be perfectly round and may have a bit of unaboob, but I am starting to think that maybe I don't want attention called to my breasts? Its so so comfy!
