Bebe shower

My husband has a co-worker who just moved here from Brazil with his pregnant wife. His department is having a baby shower to welcome the couple and their new little one due early December. I offered to make some cakes for the party. I thought a peppermint cake with pink candy cane filling would be the way to go because yes, the little one is a little girl! And who doesn't like chocolate and peppermint? I made a cute little onesie clothesline banner for the cutting cake and decorated the big cake (12x17!) with candy flowers. My ganache was soooo temperamental! It took forever to set up and then when it finally did, it was almost too firm all in a matter of 3 minutes. It's not as smooth as I'd like it but nobody who tastes it ever seems to mind.

And since Sean is not the only GF person there, I'm sending a small plate of GF peppermint brownies!

  1. I've never heard of having a "cutting cake" for a baby shower. Is this a tradition?

    1. I don't think so. It was just my way of referring to the smaller more decorative cake as opposed to the larger cake. They have invited something like 50 people.

  2. Looks relish and beautiful, Charlotte. How thoughtful of you to help out in a special way. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be that pregnant and in a foreign country.

  4. Those cakes look lovely. Every time you blog about that peppermint cake I tell myself that I have to make it and I just never get around to it. Maybe I'll give it a try this week.

  5. Ooooh -- delish! And forgive me, but this all just prompts my awful curiosity -- how do you manage to make these cakes plus home school plus care for that adorable Cupcake? And a GF diet on the side! WOW!

  6. Did you make the banner with rubber stamps? The cakes (and brownies) all look delicious!

    1. No. I cut them out using this as a template and then drew the little lines on with an ultra fine point Sharpie marker.
