Christmas Book Round-up!

One piece of feedback that I got from so many readers is that you love to see our book recommendations and reviews. Well, one of our favorite gifts to give our children for Christmas is a stack of books. They can't wait to open them on Christmas morning. I love the hush that falls over the house when they dive into the books we have chosen for each of them!

Just so you know, I start saving books to give them for Christmas usually some time over the summer. In fact, after the May Back-to-Back-Birthday extravaganza is about the best time since we don't have any other gift giving celebrations until Shortcake's birthday in November. That makes it a perfect time to start collecting books for Christmas. Sometimes they are new and sometimes they are used copies. Sometimes they are books they have never read before and sometimes they are books that have been checked out from the library so many times that the librarians beg us to acquire our own copies! (Just kidding… kind of.)

So in case you have birthdays coming up or you are looking for Epiphany gifts or just looking for some good books, here are the books each of my children received this year (with Amazon affiliate links, but you probably already knew that)

~The Professor (15, going on 16)~

~Sunshine (14)~

~Shortcake (13)~

~BigBoy (9)~

Bigboy also received from his godparents Read a Rhyme, Write a Rhyme and Pizza, Pigs and Poetry

~Cupcake (2)~
Cupcake was also given a copy of Red Knit Cap Girl along with a hand painted Red Knit Cap doll by her sweet godparents! She loves it and I am in love with Naoko Stoops's illustrations! True works of art!
(Sunshine is trying to figure out how to knit a teeny tiny red cap for the doll! I have no doubt that she can do it.)

Merry Christmas and Happy Reading!

  5. Wonderful idea! I'll have to do this next Christmas. Bonus, my children are about the same ages as yours (15 yo boy, 13 yo girl, 8 yo boy, 3 yo boy) so your recommendations are helpful, too!

  6. Hi, I just discovered your blog. I'm slowly building a collection of RSS feeds regarding books so that my wife and I can stay ahead of our kids in terms of good reading options. I agree with Lorri's comment - the photos of the books is a good way to share a lot of book recommendations in an interesting format. Thank you!

  7. I made a mental note to revisit this list when it came time for my daughter's birthday... thanks for making my birthday shopping easy! I had already given my daughter some of the books on Sunshine's list for Christmas, and now I'm giving several more for her birthday. Thanks again for this post!
