Three Days

Until the Tony Awards... are you going to be watching?

Me? I'm not so sure. I must admit that I haven't paid much attention to what's been on the Great White Way these days. I am pleased to see Laura Linney is nominated (I have a soft spot in my heart for her playwright father) and Angela Lansbury. Even if my grandmother couldn't stand her, I think she's adorable. I just don't know what to think when I recognize names from the nomination sheets mostly because they have jumped out at me from the Hollywood tabloid/magazine section that accosts me every time I need to pick up some milk. Scarlett Johansson? Jude Law? Denzel?

I guess I should give them the benefit of the doubt. Those last two do have theater backgrounds. And just because someone spends some time on television or on the big screen these days, doesn't mean they haven't got the chops. Long before GLEE came along, many actor/singers had made the cross over to television and did well: Law and Order's Jerry Orbach,  Frasier's Kelsey Grammer, Alias' Victor Garber (who even got to showcase those chops on his last show), and The West Wing's (or Pushing Daisies for those of us who never really got into the other one) Kristin Chenowith.

So, I'm kind of undecided. Any thoughts?

  1. I used to love watching, but now, not so much. It doesn't seem the same to me. Maybe I should check it out this year, though, to see if it's any better.

I have a hard time with the Hollywood types crossing over. It's almost like the only reason they do theater is to somehow validate themselves...and not as much because that's where their heart is. I could be wrong.

At any rate, thanks for the reminder. :)
