Library Find!

If you have a younger boy (and especially if you have an older boy who still likes to read to his little brother), run to your nearest library or bookstore and grab these books.

My boys have been having a rollicking good time with them during their nightly "reading time". The Professor had just finished up reading Mattimeo to BigBoy (who is more than capable of reading it himself, he just loves to hear the funny voices The Professor makes) and they were looking for something else to read until we checked out the next Redwall book. (I don't know what happened to our copies... need to fix that!) These Knights' Tales are funny and combine good moral tales with the humor. When asked more specifically about the humor, The Professor said, "Sometimes they are slapstick funny, sometimes they are intellectually funny and sometimes they're just plain laugh out loud funny." There you go, folks.

In fact, The Professor has enjoyed them so much that he's interested in checking out the series Mr. Morris has written for young adults called, The Squire's Tales. I'll let you know what we think of them.

  3. I'll have to look for those!
I also want to recommend the RedWall audio books! They are narrated by Brian Jaques and a full cast, complete with music. Great for long car trips!

  4. I am excited to hear that Gerald Morris has a series for younger boys! My son and I LOVED the Squires Tales:) They did such a good job of portraying the realities of the medeviel world in a way that was true but not graphic, and even though Gerald Morris is protestant he did an very good job of portraying the Church in the lives of the people. Enjoy!

  6. Hi just wanted to put up a quick warning on the Squires Tales--Theay are very young adultinsh-the characters are more prone to vices &the magic elements are more integrall to the plot. As an adult I have liked them but pre-read for your teens.

  7. Thank you! My 4 yr old boy is obsessed with all things knights, superheros, and pirates right now and we have been having trouble finding things that are moral and appropriate for his age in those categories. Sounds great! I already reserved the first one at the library.
