Our Lady of Guadalupe

{Etsy shop update… SOLD OUT :: I had intended to continue taking orders until tomorrow but I am sold out of most of my supplies and I won't have a chance to restock anytime soon. If you placed an order in the past two days, I will still be able to fulfill your order and have it mailed out by Monday at the latest. Check back during Lent if you'd like to place an order for Easter.  Thanks so much.}

It's the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe today. We've been celebrating like this for years. The littlest ones (and some of the bigger ones) love decorating the table cloth with pretty star stickers so that it resembles Mary's starry mantle.

I found this lovely little candle at a local store. Cupcake loves that it's pink! We will enjoy some Aztec Hot Chocolate for an after dinner treat. I'm thinking we will try either this recipe or this one. You might also enjoy this coloring page  I made many moons ago. Cupcake is not big into coloring just yet. And, of course, offer a prayer for the unborn.

We will be reading Cupcake's favorite OLG book… it's a pop-up. Who doesn't love a pop-up? In fact, she's been "loving" it so much, I might need to order another copy. Pop-ups are no fun when they only flop-up.

It doesn't take much to celebrate a feast day. Food, books, a special decoration and the "why" shared with your kids. It's what this online Catholic community has been sharing with each other for years to encourage each other to celebrate feast days and make new traditions. Don't let anyone make you think it's some new innovation or some difficult thing accomplish. And for Pedro's sake, don't fall for shameless self-promotion gimmicks. Do what works for your family. That means some families will do more and some will do less. It doesn't matter. Just do something. Enjoy this special day!

Lady of the Roses

Our simple celebration...mostly familiar.
(A starry mantle tablecloth, Our Lady of Guadalupe dolls, Paper Dali Juan Diego, Guadalupe roses from our own flower garden, plus a Mexican fiesta with sopapillas for dessert!
“Am I not here, I, who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not the source of your joy? Are you not in the hollow of my mantle, in the crossing of my arms? Do you need anything more? Let nothing else worry you, disturb you .”
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

Our Lady of Guadalupe

The children we so kind as to share their germs with me so this post is going to be brief and then I'm going to bed. The children decorated a Starry Mantle tablecloth and enjoyed some Mexican Hot Chocolate, Maria cookies and Cadbury Roses candies. Happy feast day to you all!

Under Her Starry Mantle

~The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe~

~Our table set and ready for the fiesta~

The children decorated the table cloth with pretty foil stars and we are floating 2 pink rose candles next to a Strawberry Rose Cake. We also made Elizabeth's Juan Diego with a fold open tilma and decorated it with mini pictures of our own Guadalupe roses. Pretty blue plates and rose printed napkins finish off the table. Now I have kids pining for Mexican hot chocolate just waiting for Daddy to come home!

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, pray for us!

Our Lady of Guadalupe Coloring Page

I am going to post this now for anyone who might be celebrating the feast of St. Juan Diego today or so that you can print if off early for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Friday. We have plans to have a Mexican Fiesta, decorate a blue tablecloth with gold stars (I know it should be a green tablecloth but all of the green tablecloths were psychedelic), and make this craft. So here is Our Lady of Guadalupe to color or craft with as you choose.

Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe

Listen and let it penetrate your heart, my dear little son. Do not be troubled or weighed down with grief. Do not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety, or pain. Am I not here who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not your fountain of life? Are you not in the folds of my mantle? In the crossing of my arms? Is there anything else you need?

These are two blooms from the Our Lady of Guadalupe rose bush we planted in our front flower bed last April. The colder days we have had have not been able to compare with the warmer ones and right now, 60 degree days in combination with the rain have brought on a whole slew of new buds. These two bloomed on December 9th, the feast of St. Juan Diego. I brought them inside on the 10th hoping that they would last until today. I can tell by their pallid complexion that they will not be gracing us with their beauty much longer. I am not sure if the ones still on the bush will get the chance to open, perhaps I should bring them in and try to force them.

This rose bush has surprised us with its abundance time and time again. And now... roses in December. Maybe not a miracle, but they are divine!

P.S. I am off to begin preparations for our Mexican fiesta tonight. What are your plans?

Get ready for gorgeous!

Am I not here, who is your Mother?
The Our Lady of Guadalupe roses we planted back at the end of April burst forth with color and beauty on the very last day of May, the month of Our Blessed Mother.
Coincidence? I think not.
